wp.news is a small, independent publication. This page says plainly what we do with your data — there is no legal team padding it out.

Who we are

wp.news is the data controller: it decides what happens to your data. Write to hello@wp.news about anything on this page.

The newsletter

If you subscribe, your browser sends your email address straight to Kit (kit.com), the service that stores our list and sends the emails for us. Kit emails you a link to confirm first; you are not on the list until you click it. If you came from a partner's link, your browser tab remembers the short code in that link until you close it, and Kit keeps the code with your address, so we know who sent you. We never sell or share your address.

Why we may use it

Your consent. You give it when you subscribe and confirm, and you can take it back at any time by unsubscribing.

What we send

One email each weekday, at most. Kit records when an email is opened and which links are clicked, so we can see how the newsletter is doing. Every email has an unsubscribe link that removes you at once. Our Kit account holds all of our newsletters, and on our plan unsubscribing removes you from all of them, not only wp.news.

How long we keep it

While you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe, Kit keeps your address marked as unsubscribed, so that it never emails you again. Ask us and we will have it deleted fully.

Where it goes

Kit is a US company, so your address is stored and processed in the United States.

Other sites your browser contacts

Cloudflare, a US company, hosts this site. Story images load from the sites that published the stories (we tell your browser not to say which page you came from), and Bluesky profile pictures load from Bluesky. Each of these sees your IP address, as any website you visit does. The site itself has no analytics, no ad networks and no cookies of its own.

The contact form

The contact form opens your own email app with a message to us; nothing is sent until you send it. We use your email only to reply, and we never add it to the newsletter list.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to object to how we use it. Write to hello@wp.news. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
